219 Sri Lankan’s returning from Kuwait tested positive with coronavirus

KUWAIT CITY, May 27: The Ambassador of the Social Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka to Kuwait Osman Muhammad Jawhar stated that 219 Sri Lankan’s out of 466 had left Kuwait on May 19 their test results showed positive after their arrival in Sri Lanka as they were infected with Corona virus (Covid-19).

He said that there were 385 residence violators among them who benefited from the amnesty decision laid by Kuwait Govt to leave the country without paying fines and free air ticket. The rest of them were deported who were in the deportation prison for other reasons.

He stated that 4 Sri Lankan’s were refused to board the flight by the Kuwaiti government and were hospitalized in Kuwait for treatment as one of them was infected with the virus and another died of health reasons unrelated to the virus.

Many of Sri Lankan’s returning from Kuwait were infected with coronavirus, the Sri Lankan government was criticized and had to devise a new plan to evacuate its stranded nationals in a number of countries after its current plan failed after it became clear that most of those who returned were Covid-19 positive.

In a baseless accusation Former Sri Lankan MP and Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said in TV interview that Kuwait chose the Sri Lankan violators who were infected with corona virus and sent them home! he told Derana television saying “They bombed us with the Corona bomb. They sent here the people who were infected there”.
