KABUL, June 24, (Xinhua): Two people lost their lives and another was injured as a roof collapsed in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province on Monday night, said Mawlawi Mohammad Akram Akbari, provincial director for the Natural Disaster Management Authority, on Tuesday. The deadly accident took place in Khasar village of Shahr-i-Bazarg district late Monday night, leaving two teenagers dead on the spot and injuring a child, the official confirmed.
The old-fashioned mud house, according to the official, was the reason for the incident. In the war-torn and economically impoverished country, particularly in rural areas, people are largely living in mud houses, which are prone to collapse in natural disasters such as flooding and even rain and snowfall.
