KUWAIT CITY, Sept 21: The Court of Cassation sentenced in absentia the 16 defendants in real estate fraud cases to five years in prison and fined them KD100 million, reports Al-Qabas daily. The court also sentenced in absentia some employees of the Interior Ministry to five years in prison for helping the defendants escape through Salmi border, while the truck drivers involved in the case were sentenced to three years in prison.

Attorney Ali Al-Attar from Mashari Al-Osaimi Law Office stressed in a statement to the daily that the concerned government agencies must implement the rulings issued by the Kuwaiti judiciary, especially the collection of fines estimated at more than KD415 million in eight money laundering cases related to the real estate fraud cases as per Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Law number 106/2013.
