150 Kuwaitis to replace expats in Cooperatives

KUWAIT CITY, June 15: As part of the ongoing measures to accelerate the Kuwaitization plan in cooperative societies, the concerned authorities are in the process of discussing a mechanism for overcoming obstacles that were recently identified by the Demographics Amendment Committee, reports Al-Qabas daily. The same sources said about 150 citizens will be appointed in supervisory positions to replace foreigners in cooperative societies during July.
The sources explained the team tasked with appointing Kuwaitis in senior and supervisory positions s in cooperative societies held a meeting recently, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Public Authority for Manpower and other concerned parties to complete some of the procedures in this regard. The sources told the daily that during the meeting, the officials of the two institutions discussed “the extent to which licenses can be transferred in the names of investors permanently from the main file of cooperative societies,” as the Ministry of Social Affairs continues to determine the proportions of employment within the coops to keep in check the expenses.
The sources added, the names of workers in the invested shops are currently being listed, especially since their work permits are registered in the files of cooperative societies and unions, and the ministry in cooperation with PAM is developing action plans to solve problems related to employment to arrange their conditions and address their problems within 3 months from the date of issuance of the decision to form the demographics committee.
