140,000 Expats left Kuwait labor market

KUWAIT CITY, March 18: According to government statistics, the number of foreign workers is decreasing with 140,000 people leaving the country in 2020 following the outbreak of the pandemic, reports Al-Qabas daily. Of the number of people leaving the country, 39 percent account for domestic workers. However, this was offset by 11,000 Kuwaitis joining the labor market.

Statistics indicate the population of Kuwait stands at 4,670,000 as of December 2020, citizens constituting 31 or 1.459 million, compared to 3,210 million residents who make up 69% of the total population in the country. According to the statistics, the first year of Corona witnessed an increase in the population by 206,192 people (94,799 Kuwaitis and 11,393 expatriates), compared to a total population of 4,464,000, as at the beginning of January 2020, of whom 1.365 million are Kuwaitis, and 3.099 million residents.
