14,000 citations issued for no seat belts, using phones

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: The Farwaniya police organized several campaigns against violators of traffic laws following complaints that the motorists were occupying the parking places meant for the disabled people and issued 20 citations.

Meanwhile, statistics issued by the General Traffic Department (GTD) show more than 21,000 traffic citations were issued in the first half of 2017 for not wearing the seatbelts, 14,000 for talking on cell phone while driving without using the hand sets, in addition to other citations for tinting the glasses of the cars, driving without number plates and not meeting the road safety requirements.

In the meantime, a GTD source disclosed traffic police recently organized several campaigns and issued 1,045 violations in one day or not wearing seatbelts and using cell phone while driving.
