NEW DELHI, Oct 5, (Xinhua): Fourteen people died and several others were injured when a landslide struck the Darjeeling district of India's eastern state of West Bengal amid incessant rains, a senior police official confirmed over the phone on Sunday. Several teams of the National Disaster Response Force were deployed to carry out relief and rescue work in the affected areas.
According to media reports, a few people were missing in the landslide-hit areas. Amid heavy rains, a portion of the Dudhia Iron Bridge in the North Bengal area collapsed. Additionally, a landslide occurred in the Hussain Khola area, which lies along National Highway 110 near Kurseong, cutting off the link between Siliguri and Darjeeling, according to the media reports.
