‘13 private hospitals, 3 owned by oil companies’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 30 : The latest Ministry of Health (MoH) statistics revealed that the country has 13 private hospitals and three others owned by oil companies, reports Al- Jarida daily. The number of beds in these hospitals reached 1,727; while the number of doctors reached 1,528 and the number of nurses reached 3,855. The number of beds in the oil sector (Ahmadi Hospital) totaled 432, the number of doctors reached 302, and the number of nurses reached 638. Also, the number of surgeries conducted in Ahmadi Hospital reached 11,413; the number of discharged patients totaled 8,185; the number of outpatient clinic visits reached 442,657 and 84.3 percent of whom are Kuwaitis.

Dar Al-Shifa Hospital recorded the highest percentage of discharged patients at 18 percent, followed by Al-Salam Hospital at 14.5 percent. Al-Salam Hospital conducted the highest number of surgeries – 21.6 percent of the total. The obstetrics and gynecology department recorded the highest percentage of discharged patients at 38.4 percent; while general surgeries recorded the highest percentage at 35.4 percent, followed by obstetrics and gynecology surgeries at 24.8 percent.

Internal medicine ranked first in terms of the number of patients discharged from Ahmadi Hospital with 48.3 percent, followed by general diseases with 22.8 percent, and obstetrics and gynecology with 11.9 percent. General surgeries accounted for 49.2 percent of the total operations in Ahmadi Hospital; followed by operations for ear, nose and throat diseases with 30.8 percent. The number of visits to outpatient clinics in private hospitals totaled 3,546,607 with Al-Salam Hospital recording the highest at 17.7 percent, while obstetrics and gynecology constitute 14.6 percent of the total visits to outpatient clinics, followed by accident clinics at 12.2 percent.
