Kuwait prosecution zaps 116 over power misuse for crypto

KUWAIT CITY, May 6: The Public Prosecution has started investigating 31 reports on the illegal use of electricity to mine cryptocurrencies in 59 residences, and interrogated 116 suspects in these cases. In a press statement, the prosecution emphasized that electricity is a strategic resource for the State and must be used exclusively for its designated purposes. It has been proven that some individuals exploited the electricity allocated to homes for cryptocurrency mining operations to generate immediate profits, causing damage to the public electricity grid and negatively impacting public interest. The prosecution then clarified that, based on its duty to protect State resources, it stressed the need for everyone to adhere to the proper use of these resources. It affirmed that, in cooperation with the concerned State authorities, it will not hesitate to take deterrent legal action against anyone proven to be involved in such illegal practices. It also decided to release several homeowners in the case of using electricity for cryptocurrency mining on varying bail.
