10 Key Measures to Ease Traffic Jams in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 29: A security source has disclosed that a coordination meeting held on Tuesday among relevant government agencies to address the persistent traffic congestion problem has resulted in several key recommendations. These recommendations are being put into action to alleviate the traffic issues that typically worsen with the start of each new school year.

The recommendations are focused on 10 main areas:

Implementing Autonomous Traffic Control Systems: These systems will link all traffic lights for automatic control, along with increasing the number of traffic violation cameras.

Enhancing Public Transportation: Encouraging the use of public transportation for students and private sector employees, with a particular focus on parents using these services for their children.

Staggering School Shifts: Adjusting school schedules to create breaks between the start times of elementary, kindergarten, middle, and secondary levels.

Infrastructure Improvements: Building bridges at heavily congested entrances and exits to ease traffic flow.

Road Maintenance and New Outlets: Maintaining internal roads and creating new exits to help vehicles move more smoothly from residential areas to expressways.

Redeveloping Major Roads: Accelerating the redevelopment of the Fourth Ring Road and improving sections of the Sixth and Seventh Ring Roads with the addition of bridges for smoother traffic.

Towing Illegally Parked Vehicles: Removing vehicles that obstruct traffic in front of schools, particularly those parked in second rows or prohibited areas.

Relocating Private Schools: Moving private schools out of residential areas to reduce congestion.

Restricting New School Licenses: Banning the issuance of licenses for new schools or universities within residential neighborhoods.

Flexible and Expanded Road Lanes: Introducing flexible lanes and increasing the number of lanes on roads to better accommodate traffic.

The source emphasized that these recommendations have been agreed upon by all involved government agencies, but additional coordination and flexibility are required, especially concerning student shifts and promoting public transportation use among parents
