KUWAIT CITY, July 1: Worshipers converged to various mosques in the country to pray in the last Friday of this year’s holy month of Ramadan. The sermon focused on Islamic teachings and how to deal with parents, even if they are not Muslims, given that Allah the Almighty has ordered his children to treat parents with humility and mercy despite the circumstances. Children are required to be obedient to parents except for cases that defy Islamic teachings, indicating one of the means of entering paradise is to treat parents with honor.

The sermon cautioned children against disobedience and mistreatment of parents, and noted severe punishment awaits those who disobey and mistreat their parents, in view of the fact that obedience is a direct order from Allah the Almighty and doesn’t differentiate whether or not the parents are Muslims. The sermon cited the horrific crime committed by two siblings (as reported by the media few days ago if not weeks) where two brothers murdered their parents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also made mention of the incident that happened in Kuwait where a brother slit the throat of another brother— as if he wasn’t human.

It stressed that incidents of this kind are clear indication of extreme ideology that continues to infiltrate society and causes some individuals to commit crime, thinking they are practicing religion. It also said such acts clearly indicate lack of proper knowledge of Islam and poor misinterpretation of its concepts. The sermon posed censuring questions and wondered how a person will kill his Muslim parents while Allah has ordered Muslims to be kind and humble to them — even if they are not none Muslims, and to wish them well, serve them, pray for them and have mercy on them in the same manner they took care of us during our infancy and youth.

It wondered how someone with proper control of his or her mind can be content with such an act, hoping to come face to face with Allah in the Day of Judgment. What justification can such person present knowing he disobeyed a direct order from Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful? The sermon attributed such actions to ignorance and miscomprehension of religious texts, and said “this sin is among heinous offenses that will prevent their entry into paradise”. It reiterated the solution to extremist or fanatic ideology that infiltrated many societies and continues to take its toll on innocent souls is a responsibility that should be handled by everyone without exception, and individuals or establishments should work together to fight the destructive ideology while spreading proper understanding of the message of Islam that suits the entire humanity
