Steady increase seen in number of cases, deaths

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The government resorted to tightening procedures and imposed a comprehensive curfew after reaching the red zone with indicator 5, which means a rapid and steady increase in the number of cases and deaths resulting from the Corona virus and with the percentage of cases in intensive care likely to exceed 50 percent within four weeks.

Personal protection methods for health workers are insufficient, as the number of cases rise and does not allow for tracking, examining and isolating cases. What does yellow and orange mean?

According to the indicators included in government’s presentation, the orange color refers to indicator 4 and yellow color indicator 3. The former points to cases of infection and deaths in which the rate of cases in intensive care does not exceed 50 percent in the presence of scarce means of personal protection for health workers.

The number of cases at indicator 4 is high and does not allow for effective tracking, examination and isolation of all positive contacts, which necessitates continuance of procedures with a partial ban.

As for the yellow indicator (3), it shows that the number of new cases and deaths is decreasing, with few cases in intensive care (25 percent or less) and adequate protection for all health sector workers, while the number of infection is minimal, while allowing the tracking and isolation of most positive cases in an acceptable manner, so the source of infection is reached for all positive cases.

According to this indicator, procedures are eased with partial opening. When do we move to green? The Ministry of Health’s procedures recommend an additional easing of procedures and opening of places to be closed upon reaching indicator 2 (green), which means the rate of cases is negligible in society and the daily death toll from Corona disease is low, as well as the percentage of cases in intensive care (25 percent or less).

There is adequate protection for all workers in the health sector and the number of cases is minimal enough to easily track and isolate all positive cases, while the source of infection for most positive cases is reached.

“White” … no infections, no procedures Ministry of Health proposal identified indicator No. 1 as the least dangerous, which means that no exceptional or unusual measures are taken, and life is fully normalized in the absence of Corona virus infection.
