Victory for Tunisian team at BAS Fifth Men’s International Volleyball Tournament

The Fifth Men’s International Volleyball Tournament “Independence Cup” hosted by The British Academy of Sport (BAS) and The Embassy of Greece to Kuwait was held on Friday Feb 16 at the British School of Kuwait (BSK). This unique event has become a tradition highly anticipated by many of the Embassies in Kuwait. This year’s event was well attended with 11 teams representing the countries of Egypt, Great Britain, India, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Philippines, Romania, Tunisia, USA and Zimbabwe.

With a strong crowd of supporters, including Ambassadors from many of the competing countries, the tournament was sure to be an exciting one. The opening ceremony began with a parade from the players of each participating country, followed by a spectacular performance from BSK Samba Band directed by Kevin Owen. It was an amazing day with very strong teams and very closely scored matches. The semifi nals were played by Egypt with Jordan and Philippines with Tunisia.

The Tunisian team were declared winners of the Independence Cup after winning 4 matches. Madam Vera Al Mutawa MBE, HE The Greek Ambassador to Kuwait Andreas Papadakis and the Director of BAS Lucian Anisia offered the medals and gifts bags to all competitors and the Independence Cup 2018 trophy to the Tunisian Team. The event was sponsored by: Decathlon, Masafi , Crowne Plaza Hotel, ABK, Royale Hayat and Times Kuwait.

The next noteworthy events for BAS are a Sports Trip to Singapore during the February term break and the 3rd Women’s International Volleyball Tournament “Olympia Cup 2018” which will take place on Friday March 30, all Embassies in Kuwait are welcome to register their team.
