Victor Badminton Academy holds 3rd Victor Intraclub tourney

Sanil and Don crowned champions in Advance Category

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 12: The Victor Badminton Academy recently organized the third Victor Intraclub tournament at the Al-Sahil Sports Club in Abu Halifa on the 7th and 8th of January 2019 in which more than 60 players participated over two days. The tournament was held in 3 different categories, Advance, Intermediate and Beginner.

All the categories competed in round robin format at the league stage followed by knockout in the quarter-finals, semifinal and fi- nal stages and the trainees played in knockout format. Advance Category In the Advance category eight teams advanced into the quarter-final stage and was played in the 15-15-15 knockout format.

In the first quarter-finals, top qualifier for Pool A, Kiran & Anand played with the no 4 qualifier for pool B, Prasanth and Sunil, Prasanth and Sunil emerged victorious with a score of 15- 11, 15-10 to advance to semifinals, In the second quarter-finals Vikas & Sino overcame tough competition from Nihas and Shinto with a score of 15-9, 14-15 & 15-14 to enter the semifinal stage, In the third quarter-finals, Shibin & Rajeeve defeated Edwin & Arun to enter semifinals with a three-game victory 8-15,15-5,15-9.

In the last quarterfinals, the Pool B winners overcame Sreejith and Gokul with a straight win of 15-2, 15-11. In the semifinals, Prasanth & Sunil showed little resistance where they went down to Vikas and Sino in straight games 15-14, 15-3.

In the second semifinals, the pair of Sanil and Don overcame Shibin and Rajeeve in a nailbiter beating them with the smallest of margin in the final game 14-15, 15-3, 15-4. Final showdown was a three-game affair where Sanil & Don emerged champions defeating Vikas & Sino 15- 12, 11-15, 15-7.

Intermediate Category
In the intermediate category first quarter-finals, the eventual winners Smitosh and Rajkumar defeated Shibu and Nibin in straight games 15-8, 15-14. In the second quarter-finals, Mathew Anfar overcame Sanal and Jyothish 15-10, 15-14. In the third quarter- finals, Ajay and Sameer defeated Joemon & Rajesh 15-10, 15-8, and in the last quarter-finals in the intermediate category Rasheed and Riyas overcame Lins and Vinod in straight games 15-9, 15-8.

First semifinals Saw Smitosh and Rajkumar defeating Mathew and Anfar in three games 15-9, 14-15,15-10. The second semifinals was a straight forward affair where Rasheed and Riyas defeated Ajay and Sameer in straight games 15-10, 15-9 The finals was a blazing 3-game match in which Smitosh and Rajkumar defeated Rasheed and Riyas to lift the intermediate trophy with a score of 15- 8, 11-15, 15-13.

Beginner Category
In the first quarter-finals of beginner category, the Pool A winners Syam and Sandeep defeated Vipin and Manoj in straight sets 15-10, 15-9. In the second quarter-finals, Nidish and Regil overcame Binu and Maneesh 15-7, 15-12. Jimmy and Britto overcame Sudheesh and Aloysius 12-9, 15-5 in the third quarter-finals. In the last quarter-final match, Pradeep and Sharath defeated Chandra and Juney 15-7, 8-15, 15-7 to march into semifinals.

In the semifinals, Syam & Sandeep defeated Nidish and Regil 15-7, 15-12. In the second semifinals Pradeep and Sarath was defeated by Jimmy and Britto 15-13, 15-9. Finals was a close fight between Syam & Sandeep and Jimmy and Britto in which the former emerged champions with a three-game victory with a score of 11-15, 15-12, 15-13.
