‘Super 8’ elite bowlers vying for championship

KUWAIT CITY, July 4: At the start of the first week team championship rounds of the 2019 PBAK-KBF Cup Tenpin Bowling League held at Kuwait Bowling Sporting Complex in Salmiya, the “Super 8” aka Elite Bowlers vying for the championship were UNIMONI Exchange, IBL Tigers, Asian Air Safari, KRAHS, Jordan Elites, ‘X’ Strikers, Swooping Eagles and Falcon International Cargo. Meanwhile, the lower five teams tagged as the Desperado group played their own championship version and the champions were Pin Pals (3,547) and the runners-up were IncrediBowlers (3,448), Dragon Bowlers (3,276) and SKARZ (3,250).

The leading team after the elimination round, the UNIMONI Exchange maintained their top rank status in the first week of the championship round when they won three of their four matches and these were against ‘X’ Strikers (928-837), Swooping Eagles (1,131-846) and IBL Tigers (907-829), but bowed down to Jordan Elites (987-1,041). Ibrahim Dubayan powered his team with his 197, 242, 159, 189 (787), followed by Yousef Ghadanfar 190, 201, 159, 205 (755), Rashid Aker Ali 167, 175, 201, 202 (745), Mohammad Khaled 153, 233, 156, 193 (735) and Ahmad Fadil Karam 141, 175, 152, 143 (611). Surprisingly, the fifth placers Jordan Elites snatched the second spot after demolishing all their antagonists namely IBL Tigers (1,004-798), Falcon Int’l Cargo (931-868), ‘X’ Strikers (943-853) and UNIMONI Exchange (1,041-987). Top pointer was Ali Hikmat 211, 159, 195, 189 (764), supported by Ali Arqoub 181, 157, 212, 192 (742), lady bowler Basma Ammar 206, 169, 166, 171 (712), Aji Varghese 171, 201, 164, 164 (700), Waleed Al Boloushi 129, 139, 100 (368) and Colin Eric Nelson (214). 

The Asian Air Safari fielded only four bowlers due to personal reasons but still grabbed the third spot when they crushed the KRAHS team (976-869), destroyed the ‘X’ Strikers (958-870), downed the Swooping Eagles (933-905) but outsmarted by Falcon Int’l Cargo (837-900). Farid Gabriel who scored 269, 209, 184 and 159 (821) was the highest pointer in the first round and was assisted by Fadhi Al Masri 168, 181, 152, 219 (720), Aqeel Al Farisy 170, 164, 186, 155 (675) and Sonia Mathews 158, 165, 154, 168 (645). KRAHS won two games against IBL Tigers (903-834) and Falcon Cargo (924-873) and loss matches to Asian Air Safari (869-976) and to Swooping Eagles (926-974). The top scorer was Camilo Baker 189, 191, 201, 219 (800) aided by Mar Evangelista (482), Joel Tizon (444), Moises Amahan (325), Eddie Pena (293), Sam Bhebehani (285), Rene Marzan (255) and Pilar Patula (149).

The fifth place holders were the Falcon Int’l Cargo with two wins and two losses. The victories were against Swooping Eagles (959-860) and Asian Air Safari (900-837) and the defeat were on the hands of Jordan Elites (868-931) and KRAHS team (873-924). The high scorer was John Narvasa (698) followed by Jason Gamba (551), Imelda Calingasan (498), Gener Calingasan (409), Christine Moreno (340), Jess Tolentino (274) and Jocelyn Barros (248). Ranked sixth were the Swooping Eagles with only one victory and three losses. A win over KRAHS (974-926) and loss to Falcon Cargo (860-959), UNIMONI (846-1,131), Asian Air Safari (905-933). The bowlers were Myra Manalo (678), Jessica Balagat (668), Clinton Cathers (600) and Alonzo Bush(507).

Seventh placers were ‘X’ Strikers who lost all their four games against UNIMONI (837-928), Asian Air Safari (870-958), Jordan Elites (853-943) and IBL Tigers (794-850). The players were Joe Presenta (694), Cris Carungay (600), Sbel Nitikusumo (537), Bima Nitikusumo (519) and Reygan Percy (484) and the last spotter was the second place in the elimination round the Indian Bowling League Tigers who won one game against the ‘X’ Strikers (850-794)  and the losses were against Jordan Elites (798-1004), KRAHS (834-903), UNIMONI (829-907). The bowlers were Ulysses Meneses (617), Rani Skeik (598), Nadine Dias (574), Aman Agarwal (513) and Jason D’ Sousa (488).

After the summation of the tournaments results, the awarding of trophies for the special events ensued.

Standings after the first round: 1. UNIMONI Exchange (3,953); 2. Jordan Elites (3,919); 3. Asian Air Safari (3,704); 4. KRAHS (3,622); 5. Falcon International Cargo (3,600); 6. Swooping Eagles (3,585); 7. ‘X’ Strikers and 8. IBL Tigers (3,311).
