Indian, Sudanese truckers arrested with 40,000 drug pills

KUWAIT CITY, May 14: The Criminal Court sentenced two Iranian expatriates to death over the murder of a ruling family member, his friend and his housemaid in Salwa area. The court also imposed a fine of KD 200 each on two Kuwaiti citizens for possessing unlicensed weapons, and ordered the confiscation of these weapons. The Public Prosecution had charged the first suspect of murdering the victims, and the second suspect of preparing the necessary scenario and equipment for the crime such as the guns, plastic cable wires and tape. It also charged the two suspects of attempting to murder the driver of the ruling family member, as well as of stealing money and mobile phones of the victims along with the guns owned by the ruling family member. According to the case file, the first suspect went to the fl at where the victims were staying. The second suspect, who is a domestic worker of the ruling family member, had facilitated the entry of the first suspect by leaving the door to the fl at open. The first suspect shot the victims, starting with the ruling family member, after the second suspect had tied them up with plastic cable wires and taped their mouths shut. They then tried to kill the driver by shooting him and then cutting his neck with a knife, but he managed to survive through medical assistance.

Contract nullified: The Commercial Court of First Instance nullified a contract worth KD 2 million signed by a Gulf-based construction company with a Spanish construction giant. The contract was for the construction and maintenance of some government houses at Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City. According to the case file, the Spanish company sued the aforementioned Gulf company, demanding compensation for liquidating the letter of guarantee deposited by the plaintiff company at a local bank while the contract was canceled. However, counsel to the Gulf company Lawyer Ghanim Al- Suhail insisted that his client had the right to liquidate the deposit and cancel the contract, since the Spanish company breached clauses of the contract. He said the Spanish company was a subcontractor in the project, but failed to abide by the criteria, standards and schedule that were agreed upon.

Drug pills seized: The customs officers manning the Abdali border crossing have arrested two truckers — an Indian and a Sudanese — for attempting to smuggle nearly 40,000 drug pills into the country, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, the truckers arrived from Iraq and the drugs were hidden in secret places. The two suspects and the contraband have been referred to the General Department for Drugs Control.
