KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: Tunisian shooter Oulfa Sherney bagged a gold medal in the women’s 10-meter air pistol in the Seventh HH the Amir of Kuwait Shooting Grand Prix at Mayadeen Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex.

Sherney clinched the first position with 238 points, whereas the silver medal went to Bulgarian Maria Grozdeva with 236.1 points, and the bronze to Bahraini Moza Ali with 213 points.

She said she expected to win despite the stiff competition considering the participation of Bulgarian champion Maria Grozdeva and other skillful shooters from Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait.

She attributed her expectation to the tremendous efforts she exerted during her training and preparations before the championship.  She added her participation in this event, which she is keen on participating again in the future, and the following tournaments are considered as training platforms for her debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On the other hand, bronze medalist Moza Ali said her overall performance was affected by her weak start in the competition; admitting that it took her some time to get into the winning atmosphere until she managed to settle at third position.

She added the challenge was very difficult amid high caliber female shooters, although winning a bronze medal is an achievement for all members of the Bahraini shooting delegation due to the huge cheers and unlimited support she received from her colleagues.

Bulgarian silver medalist Maria Grozdeva admitted she did not prepare enough before entering the competition, given that she started training 10 days before the tournament which, according to her, was not enough time to prepare for such a major event, although she appreciates winning the silver medal.

Grozdeva also expressed her appreciation and honor for participating in HH the Amir of Kuwait Shooting Grand Prix for the second time.  She asserted the good weather added much to her technical and experience level, in addition to establishing relations with several distinguished female shooters.

On the second day of the tournament, Kuwait won several medals including four gold medals in various shooting events.  One of the gold medal winners Khaled Al-Mudhif pointed out that HH the Amir of Kuwait Shooting Grand Pix Championship is loved by shooting champions in the world.  He is also aspiring to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
