Traffic crackdown 1028 citations issued for not wearing seat belts and 436 citations for using mobile phones

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 20: In a recent campaign covering Hawalli, Farwaniya and Capital governorates, officers from the General Traffic Department issued 1,464 citations for various traffic violations. The operation conducted upon directives from the Undersecretary of Interior Ministry Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad resulted in the issuance of 1028 citations against motorists driving without seat belts and 436 citations for using mobile phones while driving. In a statement, General Traffic Department confirmed the campaign will continue over an indeterminate period throughout the six governorates to restore sanity on the roads, indicating violators will be reprimanded in line with traffic rules and regulations.

Asian held with liquor: Officers from Hawalli Security Command apprehended an Asian expatriate in possession of 69 bottles of local alcohol in Salmiya area. A security source said patrolmen on a round of the area late at night came across a motorist and waved him down for checking and found a box of liquor inside his vehicle. He admitted peddling in the contraband and added he distributed liquor to his compatriot clients in the area. He was referred to relevant authorities. Meanwhile, policemen arrested a Kuwaiti man accompanied by an Asian lady under the infl uence of alcohol in Hawalli area. Two bottles of local liquor were seized from them before their referral to concerned authorities for necessary legal action.

Free-for-all in club: A group of youths (12 in all) engaged in a fight late at night near Jahra Club resulting in minor injuries to three people. All members of the feuding party fl ed the scene before the arrival of policemen. A security source said the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received information about a group of youths engaged in fisticuffs and officers from Jahra Security Directorate went to the scene but found no person there. The same source added that Jahra Hospital received no cases of injury in connection with the incident; neither did the police stations in the governorate.
