KUWAIT CITY, Jan 9: Undersecretary at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Engineer Muhammad Bu Shehri has assigned the concerned department to deal with house owners who changed the position of electricity meters without consulting the ministry during demolition or reconstruction of their houses.

Sources pointed out that the ministry investigated the issue and concluded that 30 citizens accused of violating the meter regulations were not actually aware of the law; thus, they’ll be required to sign pledges not to repeat the action.

As per law, the citizens were to be referred to the Public Prosecution based on the allegation of stealing electricity and violating law.

They added the decision not to charge the citizens is on humanitarian basis, considering they were not aware of the above mentioned law. They noted the owner of the house in such cases must consult the Ministry of Electricity and Water for disconnection of electricity in line with relevant procedures.
