KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: The Criminal Court acquitted a Central Prison inmate nicknamed “The King” and eight others who were accused of trading and smuggling illicit drugs and mobile phones worth KD 2 million into the Central Prison.

The legal counsel to the prime suspect Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan faulted the procedures related to searching and arresting his client, and highlighted inconsistencies in the testimonies during the investigations. However, the committee formed by Ministry of Interior to investigate how such a large quantity of drugs and mobile phones were smuggled into the prison concluded that an inmate known as “The King” was the source of these items.

The committee affirmed that he has been using unholy means to smuggle the items into the prison such as via innocent charitable societies under the guise of donating blankets, clothing and other materials to prisoners. His agents would just pack and conceal the items inside the aid materials to reach him in the prison.
