Syrian, uncle, Kuwaiti citizen nabbed in new citizenship forgery case

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: After one file is closed another opens and in the latest incident a Syrian has been arrested together with his uncle and a citizen, for acquiring the Kuwaiti nationality through fraud and handed over to the Public Prosecution for interrogation, reports Al-Rai daily.

The suspect was reportedly planning to fl ee the country when he learned that the forgery had been discovered but police managed to pick him up from his uncle’s residence in Ahmadi. According to Directorate of Research and Follow-up (Investigation of Nationality) a Kuwaiti added the Syrian on his nationality file in 1987.

However, the investigations showed the Kuwait added to his file a Syrian born in 1982 after the uncle of the Syrian agreed to pay the Kuwaiti 25,000 dinars to obtain the Kuwaiti nationality.

As agreed the Syrian arrived in Kuwait on a visit visa and the Kuwaiti succeeded in obtaining the Kuwaiti nationality and civil ID following which the fake Kuwaiti joined the Ministry of Defense but was later dismissed from work because of absenteeism.

It is also said he married a Kuwaiti woman, who was unaware of his real identity. After confirming the authenticity of the information a warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution for his arrest.

During preliminary interrogations the Kuwaiti and the Syrian are said to have admitted to falsifying the documents. The Kuwaiti has also admitted to selling the Kuwaiti nationality for KD 25,000. The Syrian after dismissal from the ministry is said to have benefited like any other Kuwaiti and got labor support, as well as a request for housing, education, health and food supplies.
