‘Subsidize Zubaidi’; ‘Too dear’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: An official from a governmental body has proposed adding Zubaidi to the food ration cards given to citizens to help them cope with the rising prices of this type of fish, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources revealed the proposal was verbally presented to an official at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry but the ministry rejected it considering the government is now working towards the rationalization of subsidies.

Sources said the official, who presented the proposal, suggested that the Subsidy Department in the ministry will specify the quantity of Zubaidi to be granted to each citizen and to sign a contract with the importers of this fish. However, the ministry believes this is not an appropriate solution especially at a time the executive authority is trying to limit public expenditures, sources concluded.
