Stats show reduction in number of expat workers – 300 Indian nurses provided jobs

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: Statistics issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Oct 1, reveal a reduction of the number of expatriate workers in the public sector by 211 compared to their numbers on July 1 of the same year. At the same time, the number of Kuwaiti employees in the public sector has increased by 1,316. According to the statistics, the number of non-GCC expatriate workers in the public sector reached 81,126, and the total number of Kuwaiti workers in the public sector reached 257,230. The number of non-GCC expatriate workers and Kuwaiti workers in the public sector as of July 1, 2017 was 81,337 and 255,914 respectively.

The statistics revealed that the number of non-GCC expatriate workers registered by CSC on April 1, 2017 was 82,061. This means the services of 935 expatriates working in the public sector have been terminated during the period between April 1 and Oct 1 this year. On the other hand, the number of citizens working in the public sector as on April 1 was 252,580.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), has managed to provide jobs to 300 of the 588 Indian nurses who are stranded in Kuwait without a job, reports Aljarida daily. According to sources, 48 nurses managed to leave the country to return to India while the remaining 29 nurses will be offered jobs within the coming three months. These nurses worked at Ministry of Health after completing all the medical test procedures and receiving the necessary papers to start work, but they did not receive their salaries for six months.

Minister of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi said he will study the report given to him by Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Affairs and Director of Human Resources Department. Meanwhile, Consultant of Tumors and Board Chairman of the national campaign for protection from cancer Dr Khalid Al-Saleh said 909 nurses were given special training with the cooperation of the Nursing Department along with 703 dentists with cooperation of the Dental Department.

He clarified that the training was aimed at enhancing the communication skills of the nurses and dentists in order to deal better with the patients and their families. In another development, Dr Jamal Al-Harbi on Sunday disclosed planned medical survey for old citizens to refresh the seniors’ medical data. The survey will be conducted in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and according to internationally accredited criteria and methods, said Dr Al-Harbi after a meeting of the supreme national committee for the elderly care.

Participants in the meeting discussed the national strategy for the elderly care and the executive blueprint (2016-2020), role of the concerned ministries and authorities, the minister said. The meeting dealt with the medical condition of the old citizens in 2016, the national plan to treat seniors suffering from dementia and the program to protect the old from falling. He revealed that a delegation of Japanese specialists would visit Kuwait on Nov 5-11 to follow up on a joint medical cooperation program.
