Some suspicious offices still selling fake certificates

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23: Although the Ministry of Higher Education has announced the existence of fake certificates, some suspicious offices still promote the sale of such certificates in the shortest time and for a cheaper price, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Offices selling certificates from Russian universities are run by Arabs and have mushroomed over the past period through social networking sites, especially the WhatsApp, claiming these certificates are accredited and approved by universities and official bodies.

When the daily contacted one of these suspicious offices, it stressed that the goal is for the student’s comfort and saving the trouble of travel and delivery of the certificates at reasonable prices to the home without the need to attending or studying the subjects. It (the office) also said all disciplines are provided at all stages of study upon the desire of the learner.

The cost of studying for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $2,500 to $3,000 depending on the student’s desire. The engineering certificate costs the student $3,000 per year, which means $15,000 for five years, including the cost of learning the language.

The cost of bachelor in medicine costs $2,500 per year and other literary specialties also cost $2,500 a year.

The suspicious office explained it offers certificates for Masters’ and Doctorate degrees within a maximum period of two months from the date of transfer of the amount. The office pointed out the certificates will be issued pre-dated to mislead the Ministry of Higher Education and the official authorities which is not less than two years.

The certificate does not require the student to receive the TOEFL or IELTS which will be provided by the office.

The office stated the student is required to be present in Russia to complete all the documents confirming the approval of the concerned authorities at the Kuwaiti Embassy, until it enters into accreditation. In this context, informed sources said the leniency of the Ministry of Higher Education and the failure to close the file of forged certificates has opened the way for the phantom offices to promote again these suspicious certificates, pointing out the committee formed by the ministry to look into the issue of false certificates has not yet completed its report.

The Ministry of Higher Education does not approve the certificates from Russian universities unless they are recommended for accreditation through its website. Meanwhile The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor said it would take strict legal measures against a board member of the dissolved ‘Freedom Society’ Anwar Al-Rashid, for making false allegations and accusations against his country while taking part in a conference overseas, reports Al- Qabas daily.

A recent video recording has gone viral in the social media which has sparked controversy after Al-Rashid talked about human rights in Kuwait describing them as “getting worse day after day.” “There are 42 prisoners of opinion who are behind bars now, along with 5 Kuwaitis who have applied for political asylum,” he said. “This is a historic precedent, along with dozens of activists who are ‘stranded’ abroad because of court verdicts against them. Kuwait has fallen 16 places in the international ranking for Freedom Index,” he added.
