‘Shut down before Feb’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: Director of the Department of Charities and Charitable Trusts at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Munira Al-Kandari said the six-month grace period which was given by the ministry for illegal or the unlicensed charities to close down expires at the end of January 2016, reports Al-Anba daily.

In a statement to the daily, the director said there are 153 charities of which 12 are licensed while 141 operate without a licence. She went on to say 34 of these unlicensed charities have already been shut down and called on the remaining 107 to follow suit before the deadline expires. She disclosed the Council of Ministers had issued the Decision No 8672001 to organize charity work.

She also said the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will soon hold a meeting with the ministries of Interior, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Kuwait Municipality to discuss the issue to that a solution acceptable by all parties is found.
