KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26: Chairman of Kuwait Judo Association Sheikh Khalifa Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber affirmed the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud is a long-standing sports personality, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He declared the minister took Kuwaiti shooting sport to a higher level during the years he chaired the association, as he worked relentlessly and tirelessly to attain global recognition. He said the minister is working hard to ensure that Kuwaiti sports reclaim the glorious days of Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad. He stated the minister’s efforts to resolve problems Kuwaiti sport has endured for almost four years can’t be overlooked.

He emphasized the assignment is energy draining and strenuous, thus each person should be on the same page over the issue. He urged the public to cooperate with all officials working for the interests of Kuwaiti sport and sportspersons under the umbrella of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. He reminded that “nobody can do it alone, just like it takes two to tango”.

He also said fiscal monitoring was lacking for a long time, because nobody was accountable for spending public funds in sports sector until Sheikh Salman used the Constitution to deal with it. He maintained that somebody was behind the grilling submitted against the minister, so they should provide convincing proofs to indict him if available.

He declared that submitting grilling request merely to play with people’s emotion is unacceptable, and proponents of the grilling should have sat down with the minister to discuss issues that led to the suspension of Kuwait from international sporting activities.

He cited lawmakers in the 1960s were of low academic attainments, but they handled issues with wisdom and a sense of patriotism in the best interest of the country.

In his comment, board chairman of Al-Arabi Sports Club Jamal Al-Kazemi corroborated the former Speaker saying grilling against the minister is the worst political error committed by the three lawmakers. He regarded the issue as a failed grilling in all ramifications, because it won’t benefit Kuwaiti sports and sportspersons in any form. He indicated grilling never solves the problems for which they were submitted but only succeeds in complicating the issues and wasting time.
