SFEX 2015 soccer fiesta opens to a rousing start – Opportunity to interact in a friendly atmosphere

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4: The much awaited annual SFEX soccer fiesta 2015 got off to a rousing start, in a very colorful and festive fashion at the Al Surra stadium. Jerry Fernandes, Operations Director of Gazal Logistics very impressively hosted the opening ceremony in his own unique style by getting all those present involved where in all the 13 participating teams in the men’s, the kids category and the ladies category lined up to witness the grand opening along with family and friends of the SFEX fraternity in Kuwait that had packed the stadium much before the opening ceremony could commence.

The SFEX soccer fiesta is a long, looked forward event year after year by the Shipping, Freight and Express (SFEX)fraternity of Kuwait where in participating team players and their families get an opportunity to interact, socialize and mingle in a friendly atmosphere outside the business field and what better place for this interaction to take place than on the unifying force of soccer.

This year we had a variety of colorful events that were added to the programme some of which included group dances performed by Miss Penny from DBO that was followed by a mesmerizing, skillful and acrobatic performance on “football freestyling” performed by Bill, Director of the Skelps Football Academy much to the amuzement and astonishment of all those present. We also had the SFEX them song that was composed and sung by Reuben Fernandes on Guitar and accompanied by Ms Neetu on tabla and Melbinon the hand pan.

 This was immediately following by all the participating team committee members and captains taking an oath of sportsmanship and peace and each of them symbolically released doves much to loud cheers and clapping of the capacity crowd that gathered. A special mention was made of Lyndon Britto who is the pioneering source and inspiration behind this annual event who was also ably assisted by Frank D’souza and Donny Almeida. Foot tapping sound and music for the evening was provided by DJ Joslee. The officials for this year’s tournament are the Indian Football Referees Association (IFRA)

The tournament main sponsors are The Kuwait Shipping Companies Agents Association (KSCAA) and are thankful to the efforts put in by Ahmed Eid, Secretary (KSCAA) and the host of other sponsors. A special thanks goes out to Sport direct and MacDonald’s, who have promised to help sponsor the kids activity.

Later the tournament was declared open by Henrik Althen, Managing Director of GAC, Kuwait by the pressing of the blow horn which got the crowd exhilarating and to their feet thereby making it amply clear that the SFEX Soccer Fiesta 2015 had begun.
