Sept 2 will be first day of Dhul-Hijja

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: The Department of Astrology and Space Sciences in Kuwait Science Club has announced that the first day of the month of Dhul- Hijja (12th month in the Islamic lunar calendar) for the year 1437 AH will be on Sept 2, 2016; so Arafat Day (ninth day of Dhul-Hijja) will fall on Sept 10, 2016 and the first day of Eid Al-Adha will be on Sept 11, 2016.

In a press statement, Director of the department Badar Hamoud Al-Omeira disclosed the new moon of Dhul-Hijja will appear at exactly 12:03 pm local time on Sept 10, 2016 and it will stay for three minutes only after sunset, so it will be difficult to see with the naked eye.

Al-Omeira added the appearance of the new moon will coincide with the astronomical event known as annular eclipse at exactly 12:06 pm local time and this eclipse will not be spotted in Kuwait, but it will be visible in some parts of Africa.

According to those in charge of sighting the new moon with naked eyes, the pairing will happen before sunset on the sighting day and the new moon will be at an angle of seven degrees of Arc from the horizon. Based on this, the standing on Mount Arafat will fall on Sept 10, 2016 and the first day of Eid Al-Adha will be on Sept 11, 2016.
