KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: The Court of Appeals presided by Justice Jamal Al- Atal has ruled in favor of 30 members of the ruling family and ordered the Scope Satellite TV Channel and the presenter of the program ‘Zain & Shain’ to pay the plaintiffs KD 90,000 (KD 3,000 to each member) in a libel suit.

The lawsuit was filed by Fawziya Al-Sabah against the channel on behalf of some members of the ruling family. Court papers say during the program which was telecast on Scope TV on Oct 16, 2010, Talal Al-Saeed had accused the former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Sheikh Faisal Al-Malik Al-Sabah and the ruling family.

Al-Sabah said this final judgment has opened the door to move the case because the channel had crossed the limit by violating press and publication law and that what was said by Talal Al-Saeed did not fall within the law but an insult and false accusations made against the ruling family. What he said could affect the unity of the community and may also lead to destabilization of the country’s security.
