DUBAI, Jan 29: It’s a great start to the weekend for Kuwait’s Zaid Ashkanani and his Al Nabooda Racing team mate Jeffrey Schmidt and Zaid Ashkanani securing the front row of the grid in qualifying for Race 1 of Round 4 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East at Dubai Autodrome.

Dubai Autodrome will be the centre of the regional motor racing world this weekend as it plays host to Round 4 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, now entering the crucial second half of the season with the drivers getting to grips with the track for the first time in 2016.

For Kuwait’s Ashkanani the weekend is a huge opportunity to try and close the gap on his team mate Jeffrey Schmidt but with the Swiss star starting from pole, Ashkanani knows he has a mountain to climb.

Speaking ahead of Round 4 at the Dubai Autodrome Al Nabooda Racing’s Zaid Ashkanani of Kuwait said:

“Qualifying went well, I feel there is still room for improvement and I feel I can go faster out there but the conditions play a big part and it’s quite windy today so I didn’t end up setting the time I wanted. Overall I am happy and I will look forward to going quicker in the race!”

“We’re edging closer to the team title but our focus is on being as close to perfect as we possibly can be. As the season goes on our results should continue to improve and that’s what we will be going for in Dubai this weekend.”

For local motorsport fans in the UAE the pure race action featuring the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and one of the strongest grids ever assembled in the series means intense rivalries throughout the field.

The region’s leading drivers will line-up in the Porsche 911 GT3 as the star attractions at Dubai Autodrome.

Widely favoured as one of the most challenging and exciting racing tracks in the Middle East, the autodrome’s 5.39KM Grand Prix Circuit will host a crucial showdown in what are expected to be colder conditions this weekend in the UAE.

The drivers will face 10 laps with Round 4 Race 1 on Friday 29 January and Race 2 on Saturday 30 January with all fans welcome.
