Rent agreement

I am living in Salmiya with my husband. I have a question about our rent agreement. Our one year rental contract with landlord was over in October according to lease agreement. We pay rent every month. And the landlord has taken one month rent as deposit. Now that the one year contract is already over and that the rent is paid every month, can we still leave the building and get our deposit back by providing one month notice or we again have to wait until October next year. Looking forward your reply.

Answer: You don’t have to wait till October next year before you leave the building if you deserve to do so. All that you need to do is to give the landlord one month notice and make sure that by 25th of that month you quit the building.

The practice in Kuwait is that the one month rent you pay prior to occupying the building is not returned to you but you don’t also pay rent for the month during which you leave the building but this will be on condition that you give one month notice and quit the building by 25th of that month as explained earlier.
