CANDIDATES TAKE OFF THE GLOVES WITH DOCUMENT SIGN-ONS
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 15: 2022 National Assembly election candidate and former MP Naif Al-Merdas has filed an appeal against the Ministry of Interior’s decision to disqualify him from the elections. He said the concerned court will rule on his appeal on Sept 18, 2022. In another development, a number of political activists released the ‘Document of Renaissance’ in response to the ’Document of Values’.
These activists will ask the candidates to sign the ‘Document of Renaissance‘, which is aimed at urging the next MPs to focus on urgent issues concerning citizens; such as freedom of speech, civil rights for Bedouns, housing problem, real estate crisis, advancement of medical services and improving the quality of education. In addition, former MP and Second Constituency candidate Khalid Ayed Al-Anzi was born on Oct 17, 1968. He is a Sunni independent politician who holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Law, and a certified arbitrator in the Cassation and Constitutional courts. He won the elections in 2020; ranking sixth in the Second Constituency with 2,565 votes. He was also elected chairman of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee in the 2020 Assembly.
He supported the government and National Assembly speaker in most cases. He never filed a grilling motion against the ministers. He always voted against grilling motions; such that of Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali in January 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al- Muhammad in February 2022, and Minister of Public Works Ali Al-Mousa in March 2022. He voted in favor of lifting the parliamentary immunity of MPs Shuaib Al-Muwaizri, Muhammad Al-Mutair, Thamer Al-Suwait and Khalid Al- Otaibi.
Al-Anzi once pointed out that Kuwait donated more than KD6 billion to other countries, away from parliamentary monitoring. He then stressed the need to issue a law on requiring legislative approval for donations exceeding KD10 million. By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
