KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: The prices of food items have increased remarkably, as some of these items cost only 100 fils if obtained from traders and importing companies but the cooperative societies sell them for about 400 to 600 fils, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed the cooperative societies gain 15 to 20 percent profit from baby milk which should be sold with minimal or no profit, while they get only five percent profit from cigarettes, indicating this is not in line with the proportion of the global increase estimated at 10 percent.

Sources said negligence has been observed in terms of the application of laws on fair competition, combating monopoly, supervision over the commercialization of goods and determining prices of goods. Sources added some importing agents are taking advantage of the inactive role of the Consumer Protection Department
