Registration closed under affordable Hajj program: Awqaf

Saudi Hajj authorities permission awaited

KUWAIT CITY, May 15: Ministry of Awqaf has closed the door of registration to Muslims who wish to perform the rites of the pilgrimage under the affordable Hajj program after reaching the 100 percent target with 2,000 individuals from both sexes – as announced by the ministry, adding 7 caravans were allotted to facilitate the pilgrimage at a fixed price of KD 1,300, reports Al-Anba daily.

With regard to Bedoon pilgrims, sources explained that Ministry of Awqaf is still waiting for the approval of Saudi Hajj authorities to allow them perform Hajj rites, as observed last year when the custodian of two holy mosques granted 1,000 illegal residents the chance to perform the Hajj rites.

Ministry of Awqaf, in coordination with the Ministry of Hajj of Saudi Arabia, had began early preparations and announced that registration would be closed after reaching the targeted number of pilgrims.

Sources said the registration rate reached 70 percent last week, and the first caravan left for the Holy Land in the first week of August, out of the total 52 caravans approved for this year’s pilgrimage with 100 pilgrims per caravan.

The daily stated the caravans committed themselves to placing advertisements that set prices and services to be provided for pilgrims, while ensuring the completion of registration procedures without hindrance.

With the launch of the affordable Hajj system, Ministry of Awqaf set the price at KD 1,300 and gave priority to the elderly and ‘first-timers’, while the prices of caravans varied in services and rooms – with the average price ranging between KD 1,750 and 2,200, sources reiterated.
