Raid in Fintas Restaurants fined

KUWAIT CITY, May 31: Environment Public Authority (EPA) recently launched an inspection campaign in a number of hotels in Abu Halifa and Fintas areas as well as in beaches belonging to the Touristic Enterprises Company, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The campaign was held with the cooperation of Environmental Police and a number of citations were issued during the campaign including against some seafront restaurants that failed to put up no-smoking signs in areas that are not designated for smoking, due to which the owners of those restaurants were imposed a fine of KD 1,000 as per Article 56 of the relevant law. Some citizens and expatriates were also fined for breaking the no-smoking law and dumping garbage on beaches.

Meanwhile, Environmental Police Department collaborated with officials of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) and Kuwait Municipality and raided a livestock pen for sheep, which was serving as butchery without official authorization.

EPA’s Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs Engineer Mohammad Al-Enezi noted the officials have shut the place down. He also said the livestock pen did not meet the required hygienic, safety and environmental standards, and deemed it inappropriate and repulsive.

He disclosed that EPA received a complaint from a citizen who discovered the illegal butchery, and officials coordinated to carry out the raid.
