Qatar, Kuwait critical partners in China’s Silk Road Initiative

DOHA, Nov 4, (KUNA): Qatar and Kuwait are important partners in China’s Silk Road Initiative which aims at boosting trade between many countries, Qatar’s Transport and Communications Minister Jassim Al- Sulaiti said Sunday. Al-Sulaiti made the remarks in a press statement, on the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition (Silk Road) and (Belt and Road Conference) in the presence of Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Dr Jinan Ramadan, which also included a number of experts and those involved in the global initiative.

The Qatari minister added that Qatar is one of the main participants in the Silk Road Initiative, where some 13,800 consignments are shipped annually and aspires to increase this contribution.

The exhibition seeks to shed light on logistics in relation to the Silk road initiative, which is one of the oldest trade and cultural road networks linking China, Asia and Europe by land and sea for hundreds of years, and has contributed to the prosperity of many countries and cities along its path. The three-day exhibition aims at exchanging technology expertise and attracting investments from all over the world and is a platform for bringing together international companies, expertise and advanced technology and Qatari companies under one roof.

The exhibition highlights investment opportunities in the technology sector and shipping companies, in addition to showcasing the latest technologies that are involved in all types of shipping services, transportation and port management by the participating countries.

The new route is a giant Chinese project involving 123 countries through which China wants to accelerate its products’ access to world markets, including Asia, Europe, Africa, South and Central America.

The Kuwaiti delegation includes Assistant Undersecretary for Maintenance Engineering Sector Sheikh Abdulaziz Mohammad Al-Sabah and Director of Roads and Networks Maintenance Department in Hawalli Governorate, Muhanad Al-Khayat
