KUWAIT CITY, March 9: First Deputy Prime Minister and acting Minister of Interior and Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled ordered the immediate opening of investigation into a citizen working in a military institution who escaped after trying to smuggle 18 kilograms of hashish through Salmi border, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources. Sources revealed the smuggling attempt was foiled at Salmi border, but the suspect fled through Kuwait International Airport where he got on a plane bound for Turkey.

Sources said Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled stressed the need to establish the circumstances leading to the incident, hold the negligent accountable and take the necessary measures against those who facilitated the suspect’s escape as “no one is above the law.”

Sources added the confiscated hashish was referred to the Drug Control General Department in preparation for legal action. Sources affirmed that the Ministry of Interior opened an extensive investigation to take legal measures against those who failed to arrest the accused and let him flee. Sources said the ministry will coordinate with Interpol to arrest the suspect.
