KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Assistant Undersecretary for Food and Drug Control Affairs in the Ministry of Health Dr Abdullah Al-Badr has unveiled the ministry’s plan to attract international investors through the establishment of medicine factories and manufacture medical equipment locally, in addition to contracting with international companies to offer medical consultations and to provide citizens with the best and most comprehensive healthcare, reports Alrai daily.

Al-Badr made the announcement at the First Gulf Health Insurance Conference in Bahrain, which he attended recently along with Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Mohammad Al-Subaei on behalf of Health Minister Dr Basel Al-Sabah.

In addition, Al-Anbaa daily has quoted Al-Badr as saying that the ministry has started arranging procedures for the withdrawal, suspension and cancellation of medicines and pharmaceutical products based on a circular issued by Undersecretary Dr Mustafa Reddah. He explained this step is in line with the recommendations of drugs administrations in the European Union and the United States of America, as well as the health ministries in GCC and other Arab nations.

He disclosed the Registration and Drugs Control Department in the ministry will be in charge of issuing directives on withdrawal, suspension and cancellation of medicines and pharmaceutical products. He also urged the public to file complaints with the concerned authorities in case they are not satisfied with the quality of medicines; for example, if the medicines are not effective or have side effects.
