Panel discusses Eurofighter deal with officials from SAB, Defense

Al-Sabeeh response unsatisfactory: MP

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 3: The parliamentary committee tasked to look into the points of interpellation motions against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah on Tuesday discussed the Eurofighter deal with representatives of the State Audit Bureau (SAB) and Ministry of Defense, says MP Rakan Al-Nisf.

According to Al-Nisf, the committee members were briefed on the technical aspects of the deal as the panel needs this information in preparing a report on the response of the Ministry of Defense to the comments of SAB.

He hopes the report will be completed within one month. He said the Ministry of Defense, represented by the minister and his team, affirmed the final decision to purchase the aircraft.

Al-Otaibi

Meanwhile, MP Khalid Al- Otaibi has forwarded questions to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al- Sabeeh about the McKinsey study. He disclosed that on Aug 21, 2017; he asked the minister about the study but the response he received was unsatisfactory so he decided to submit another set of questions. He asked about the purpose of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) in signing a contract with the institution that conducted the study and total value of the contract.

He also requested for copies of the study and the contract. He wants to know if there are pending cases against any member of the board of directors of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) and nature of these cases if the reply is in the affirmative. He demanded as well for copies of the financial and performance reports of KAC for 2014, 2015, 2016 and the first half of 2017.

He inquired if there is a deal with Tourism Enterprises Company (TEC) to manage the airport and if a tender in this regard has been submitted. He requested for copies of the tender announcement and the contract if the reply to the aforementioned queries is ‘yes’. He also demanded for a report on the number of flights cancelled this year, reasons for cancellation and losses incurred due to the cancelled flights.

Furthermore, MP Omar Al- Tabtabaei submitted questions to State Minister for Housing, Yasser Aboul about the recruitment process in the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW). He wants to know the date of publishing the latest job advertisement; results of interviews; number of expatriate and Kuwaiti employees, their names, qualifications, salaries, positions and bonuses they received as of Jan 1, 2014.
