GAZA, Feb 13, (KUNA): Palestinian officials in Gaza have named a road in the south of the strip after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in recognition of his efforts in support of Palestinian rights.

The road, located east of the city of Khan Younis is part of a series of Kuwaiti- funded projects worth $8 million intended for Gaza’s reconstruction. The move also saw another road named after Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.

The initiative was taken as a “message of gratitude and appreciation from the Palestinian people for the ongoing financial and diplomatic support of His Highness,” Municipal minister Majdi Al-Saleh told KUNA. In relation to Kuwait’s chief lawmaker, Al-Ghanim, the Palestinian official praised his “honourable and supportive positions towards the Palestinian people,” particularly in regards to the US plan on the Middle East. The Kuwaiti government, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, handed out a $200 million grant to the Palestinian people for the rebuilding of homes and infrastructure damaged after the Israeli bombardment of Gaza in 2014.
