Over 180 schools issued citations for raising fees

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 4: Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued citations against 20 private and American schools among some 180 schools for violating regulations and raising fees up to 40 percent, although the law does not allow more than 3 percent increase every three years.
Sources said the ministry gave 30 days grace period for each school to modify their stances legally, noting the ministry has since formed a committee headed by Undersecretary Dr Haitham Al-Atheeri to follow up the schools that violated the ministry’s bylaws and regulations.
They added the committee pays field visits to the schools and so the ministry will suspend all transactions with government authorities if they fail to comply with regulations and modify their positions legally. Schools violating regulations will be required to provide official letter and documents proving the extra charges collected from guardians are refunded.
Delay
Meanwhile, Ministry of Education has said the delay in inaugurating some schools in Sabah Al-Ahmad and Jaber Al-Ahmad new cities is due to late delivery of the projects by concerned contractors and some technical errors detected in the projects, adding the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) delivered 15 schools in Jaber Al-Ahmad City and 5 others in Sabah Al-Ahmad City before the end of 2015, reports Al-Qabas daily. An official source disclosed the belated inauguration coincides with the outcry of residents of the new cities over the operation of public services, while accusing ministry officials of lackluster attitude.
He stressed that handing over the project to the ministry is preliminary and that schools in Jaber Al-Ahmad City are not completely ready because of air conditioning system and other issues. He noted the ministry has since taken delivery of 10 schools in Sabah Al-Ahmad City of which some are currently in operation. He hinted the officials are waiting for completion of observations noted by the Preliminary Receiving Committee in February.
Meanwhile, a source from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) disclosed that knocks on the authority from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, concerning public housing projects in the new cities were unwarranted and unjustifiable. He assured the authority abided by all conditions of the contracts and that Kuwaiti engineers were appointed to supervise the projects, and they were also responsible for handing them over to respective government departments after they are certified and declared ready to use.
