KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah convened Wednesday the traditional consultation dialogue to appoint the new prime minister, leading to the reappointment of HH Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.HH the Amir then instructed the prime minister to form a new Cabinet in accordance with Article 57 of the Constitution which stipulates that the Cabinet should be re-constituted at the beginning of every legislative term of the National Assembly.HH the Amir received HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak and former Parliament Speaker and MP-elect Marzouq Al-Ghanim for consultation.Former Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al-Sadoun was expected to attend the dialogue but he extended his apologies due to personal affairs, an excuse allegedly given numerous times before.Article 56 of the Constitution states that, “HH the Amir appoints the prime minister after the traditional consultations and relieves him of office. The Amir also appoints ministers and relieves them of office upon the recommendation of the prime minister. Ministers are appointed from among the National Assembly members and others. The total number of ministers shall not exceed one-third of the National Assembly members.”In another development, MP-elect Mohammad Al-Mutair recently received in his diwaniya 21 other newly elected MPs, most of whom are known to be part of the opposition. They discussed nominees for various parliamentary positions and committees ahead of the opening session of the newly elected National Assembly on Dec 11, 2016.Present at the meeting were MPs-elect Omar Al-Tabtabaei, Abdul Wahab Al-Babtain, Riyadh Al-Adsani, Thamer Al-Dhafiri, Jaman Al-Harbash, Naif Al-Mirdas, Ali Al-Daqbasi, Hamdan Al-Azmi, Khalid Al-Otaibi Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Nasser Al-Dowsari, Marzouq Al-Khalifa, Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, Majed Al-Mutairi, Abdullah Fahad, Mohammed Al-Dalal, Abdul-Kareem Al-Kandari, Shuaib Al-Muwaizri, Mohammed Hayef , Mubarak Al-Harees and Adel Al-DamKhi.MP-elect Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie, meanwhile, apologized for not attending the opposition coordination meeting because he was in Makkah at the time and he informed those at the meeting that he supports them in any matter which encourages unified efforts in serving public interest. By Abubakar A.
