KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The General Traffic Department has resumed the online service of renewing driving licenses for expatriates, after stopping the renewal procedures during the past few days, reports Al-Rai daily. Well-informed security sources said the General Traffic Department had suspended the renewal of driving licenses for expatriates, whether through the website or in person, and allowed it “online” only for citizens, Gulf nationals, bedoun and house drivers (Article 20) residence holders.

The sources indicated the GTD had taken this step to organize the procedures for renewing expatriate driving licenses and to ensure they comply with the specific conditions for granting driving licenses, as several parties were involved in fraud and forgery in some cases. The sources indicated that expatriates can easily access the website of the General Directorate of Traffic and renew their driving licenses 6 months before their expiry date, according to the applicable conditions and regulations.

Meanwhile, the General Traffic Department (GTD) intends to use motorized bikes in its operations, so it is now in the process of contracting to procure 300 motorized bikes, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources. Sources explained these bikes will be procured as per the system of the Interior Ministry in this regard. Sources said the ministry has contacted the concerned regulatory authorities about this system (LP 168/2020-2021) for the supply of the abovementioned bikes
