Non-urgent and unimpeded surgeries in public hospitals suspended

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: With the continuous rise in the COVID-19 cases on a daily basis, the Ministry of Health has decided to suspend non-urgent and unimpeded surgeries in public hospitals. Director of Adan Hospital Dr. Tariq Dashti revealed that the occupancy rate in the COVID-19 wards has increased by more than 50 percent.

He indicated that the previous number of cases ranged between 25 and 30, but it increased in the past few days to reach 50-57 cases. In a press statement, Dr Dashti assured that Kuwait is able to contain the increasing numbers of infections.

He said the clinical capacity of the four COVID-19 wings is 114 beds, in addition to 18 intensive care beds. Dr Dashti revealed the adoption of a plan to expand the wards at any time, if the need arises. Regarding the hospital’s medical and technical personnel vaccination unit, Dr Dashti said, “The daily capacity of vaccination ranges from 100 to 150 people”.

In the same context, Director of Farwaniya Hospital, Dr Muhammad Al-Rashidi affirmed that the occupancy rate of COVID-19 wards and intensive care units has increased by 30 percent during the past ten days, which raises the alarm and warns of the need to take caution.
