Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 27: President of Kuwait National Guard His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah wished His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah success in his mission to heal the GCC rift and restore Qatar to its flock and natural house through his mediation which is generally accepted regionally and internationally particularly in the Gulf region.

In his address to Al-Seyassah daily, Sheikh Salem said, “No one in the Gulf Cooperation Council wants to sideline Qatar”. He revealed that he was pleased with the statement of Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani in which the latter affirmed his country’s commitment to its membership in the GCC, and that Qatar is not thinking of withdrawing from the council.

Sheikh Salem said this was a good indication of Doha’s keenness for the unity of the Gulf House, “and this is what everyone in the region wishes for”. Speaking at a diwaniya on Wednesday in the presence of political, social and economic personalities as well as Arab and foreign members of the diplomatic corps, Sheikh Salem stressed that the past period witnessed a disturbing media explosion by all mass media in the region. He clarified that majority of their topics did not depict the GCC culture, traditions and customs, adding, “Hence we wish all the GCC people will revive their principles and the culture on which they were brought up”.

Sheikh Salem insisted that people should avoid grudges and provocations in order to pave way for Kuwaiti mediation for the sake of restoring normal relations among the GCC countries. When asked about the recent events in the Arab world such as problems, wars and the recent referendum in north Iraq concerning the independence of Kurdistan, Sheikh Al-Salem said, “The atmosphere in the region is very disturbing.

We can only ask Almighty Allah to protect our countries, and hope that we will come out of this tunnel more united and strong”. He explained, “In the recent decades, we experienced the positive consequences of the united Gulf stance on many issues. We had achieved great success, including when the Iraqi regime invaded Kuwait, and the GCC countries led by Saudi Arabia managed to mobilize and gather the entire world for confronting the invasion and for fighting for justice, and when Iran attempted to shake the stability of Bahrain.

The GCC countries managed to collect the Peninsular Shield Forces for that confrontation, and the Gulf unity succeeded in protecting Bahrain”. Sheikh Salem went on to say, “What we hope for is that our countries will continue to hold on to their unified stance and hamper any attempts that are aimed at breaking the Gulf line.

It is this unity that will help us in become stronger and more united when we get out of the dark tunnel through which the Arab world is passing. We wish our brothers in the Arab countries that are witnessing wars and internal struggles will seek wisdom and be of one accord. We urge these people to devote themselves for rescuing their countries from the dilemma that has negatively affected all aspects of life, destroyed the infrastructure and economy of those countries and resulted in several cases of deaths and injuries”. He stressed the need to do everything possible in all levels for keeping the Gulf countries safe from any dangers and making them more united, as they are linked by strong social and economic ties which helped them in realizing many achievements. Sheikh Salem said, “Enhancing the unity among the Gulf countries will make them stronger and more triumphant in facing issues, which will in turn increase their immunity”.

His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al- Sabah also talked about the recent celebrations of the 86th anniversary of Saudi Arabia’s National Day. In response to a question in this regard, he said, “At present, Saudi Arabia is leading an era using the wisdom and deep experience of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques His Highness King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and the ambitions of the young Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman. King Salman Bin Abdulaziz progressed gradually by taking up different positions since his early years. Through it all, he managed to interact closely with the people and understand their needs.

The current fulfillment of people’s ambitions through historic decisions in the fields of economy, social affairs and politics are nothing but a reflection of the deep-rooted experience and wisdom of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques His Highness King Salman Bin Abdulaziz”. Sheikh Salem went on to say, “This highly-experienced man is full of wisdom. We noticed that most of his decisions are based on his wisdom and the ambitions of the youth, as I said earlier. Therefore, we in Saudi Arabia do not doubt that we are leading a very important historic period.

The social and economic development that we are witnessing is refl ected positively on all aspects of life and it in turn positively affects all GCC citizens”. He affirmed that the current era is witnessing striking development in the form of positive relations, either between the GCC and Egypt or within the Arab world where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is performing its role as it is the most capable for gathering the Arabs and shares distinguished relations with most of the countries worldwide.

Sheikh Salem said, “We all remember the Arab, Islamic and American conference that was held in Riyadh in May 2017. Saudi Arabia had managed to convene 54 Arab and Muslim countries in that historic summit. Undoubtedly, the fruits of that summit will gradually appear in both Arab and Islamic worlds”. He stressed, “There is no doubt that those who follow the achievements of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques will not be able to hold back the feeling of pride, as these achievements are a source of joy and happiness for all GCC citizens, not only for the Saudi citizens”.

Sheikh Salem said, “On this occasion, I cannot miss the chance to express my happiness over the enhancement of the historic Kuwaiti-Saudi relations, which dates back to many generations and will continue developing throughout the generations to come. This is because these relations are sisterly/ brotherly and based on the unity of direction and destiny”. Returning to the topic of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem praised the social ties that connect Kuwaiti citizens, affirming that Kuwaiti people are known for their tolerance and friendly attitude. He clarified, “The evidence of this is the wide presence of diwaniyas where everybody gathers. Even if they have different points of view, they are keen on fulfilling their social and religious duties through participation in both happy and sad occasions. This aspect distinguishes Kuwaitis from other peoples of the region. This nation is based upon the friendly attitude and unity among the people, and I wish the people would adhere to that and hand it over to the future generations”.
