Newspaper editor fined KD1000 for ‘refusing’ order to close down

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: The Court of First Instance fined Sheikh Khalifa Al-Ali KD 1,000 on the lawsuit filed against him by Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali who accused him of rudeness and resisting legal orders to close down Al- Watan newspaper. Sheikh Khalifa was again obliged to pay KD 5,001 in temporary civil compensation to the plaintiff.

Worker wins camp: The Administrative Court presided over by Judge Dr Mohammad Al- Tamimi ordered Director General of Kuwait Municipality to pay compensation of KD 5,000 compensation to an employee for the material and psychological losses he incurred due to certain decisions that affected him. The court nullified the decision to transfer him and reinstated him to his former position, after confirmation that he was transferred to a bogus position that does not exist on the organizational structure of Kuwait Municipality. Earlier, the plaintiff had urged the court to nullify the administrative decision concerning his transfer to the Office of the Deputy Director General for Finance and Administration. He also requested for KD 5,001 as temporary compensation and legal fees.

Duo acquitted: The Misdemeanor Court chaired by Judge Abdullah Al-Babtain acquitted two citizens of assaulting a driver on Beirut Street and damaging his car. Representing the defendants, Lawyer Ali Al-Harzi affirmed that investigations did not provide any substantial evidence to prove that one of his clients or both were involved, indicating the testimonies given are not enough to convict the defendants due to lack of evidence. He added that some mistakes were committed on the road and investigations were conducted to determine whether or not the damage was caused while the vehicle was moving or in a standstill.

KGOC sanctioned: The Cassation Court ordered Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) to pay road compensation to all Kuwaiti employees working in the Divided Zone retroactively from June 2013 and to continue the payment henceforth. The total compensation to be paid to the employees will be about KD 24 million on the basis that the average compensation amount will be KD 1,000 per month and the number of employees is more than 1,000.
