New campaign launched against make-shift markets

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 24: Public Hygiene and Road Usage Department of Farwaniya Municipality launched a campaign targeting a number of illegal popup markets in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area, resulting in the confiscation of ten truckloads of vegetables, fruits and used electrical equipment, and issuance of 16 citations, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Director of the department Sa’ad Al Khurainij declared in a press release that such campaigns will be held throughout the governorate in order to remove anything that mars the public beauty, and to enhance level of cleanliness in the governorate. He revealed that the campaigns are being carried out with the support of Ministry of Interior.

Al-Khurainej explained that the confiscated items included eight truckloads of vegetables, fruits and other food items, and two truckloads of used clothes and electrical equipment.

All these items were referred to the Municipality’s incinerator. In addition, six citations were issued against hawkers who were referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action, and ten other citations were issued for violations related to lack of cleanliness. During the campaign, the location was cleared, large quantities of waste materials were removed, and ten neglected vehicles were lifted
