Gang running maids office busted
Under the supervision of Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs in the Interior Ministry Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarah Al-Sabah, a team of officers from the General Department for Residency Security Affairs arrested nine Asians for operating bogus domestic labor offices, swindling and trading in household workers who escaped from their employers. In a press statement, the ministry disclosed the suspects provide shelter for the absconding household workers and then offer them to other sponsors for exorbitant fees.
The arrest came after the department received information on the illegal activities of the Asians. Initial investigations revealed the modus operandi of the suspects who make deals with runaway housemaids such that they find other sponsors for them in exchange for high fees. The ministry has reiterated its call for Kuwaitis and expatriates to deal only with authorized domestic labor offices in order to avoid legal problems.
