KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Experts on international relations and development stressed the need to support the global issue of climate changes and control carbon emissions. They said this during a seminar titled ‘Climate Policy’ organized by American University of Kuwait on Sunday evening to discuss the goals and expectations of the international conference for thermal occlusion which is scheduled to be held in Paris, France in December.

The seminar was held in the presence of representatives from the Embassy of France in Kuwait and United Nations Development Project. The lecturers insisted that an obligatory international agreement must be approved for controlling climate changes which will in turn help in preserving environment and human wellbeing.

They also stressed the importance of increasing greenery in the country and searching for alternative energy sources through the use of water. The lecturers said Kuwait is currently facing a big danger through the use of oil for generation of electricity and purification of water particularly when considering the financial and economic losses incurred by the country due to the decline in oil prices to less than $45 per barrel.

They urged youths to search for solutions to find alternative sources and use them for energy generation, pointing out the important role played by the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and United Nations Development Program in supporting Kuwait to diversify its economy, which has been included in the developmental plan. Secretary General of Moderation Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sherikah has cautioned against giving the right of issuing religious edicts to ignorant people or learning from them, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Sherikah made the declaration at a lecture he delivered inside Al-Ajmi Mosque in Kheitan area concerning the role of edict (fatwa) and its effectiveness in consolidating moderation in collaboration with the Islamic Civilization Department. He affirmed that such ignorant people are the reason for acts of terrorism and waywardness among the youth, and their obstinacy against virtuous Islamic teachings. He said real moderation in Islam is the pure way Allah Almighty reveals, and observing the tenets of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He warned against promoting the idea of Arab Spring, as it brought nothing positive to humans rather than evil, destruction, and unlawful killing.
