Murder attempt suspect detention extended

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: The detention renewal judge has decided to extend for ten more days the detention of the individual who is accused of attempting to kill Dr. Hussein Jarkhi. In a press statement, the defense counsel of the victim Lawyer Saad Al-Hussein affirmed that the Public Prosecution took the case from a traffic misdemeanor to an attempted first degree murder, adding that the case is still under investigation. He demanded the application of the maximum penalties for the accused to serve as a lesson, insisting that he will file a civil lawsuit to compensate his client for the damages he sustained as a result of the accused’s crime.

In the recent court session, the accused and his defense appeared before the judge and denied the accusation against him. His defense also demanded the release of his client with any guarantee amount that the court deems appropriate, as he is not expected to escape because he is a Kuwaiti citizen.

It is worth mentioning that the General Department for Criminal Investigations had arrested the suspect for allegedly running over Dr. Hussein Jarkhi, who works at the Psychiatric Hospital. The suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution. In a statement issued in response to a video clip posted on social media of the incident in Ahmadi Governorate, the Ministry of Interior affirmed that the suspect has been handed over to the Hawally Investigation Department of the General Department for Criminal Investigation, after he surrendered at the Psychiatric Hospital.
